I received this amazing tequila collection as a gift and was so impressed that I had to write about it (and buy another one). Each of the three samples offers a window into the process itself. Presented together this way, it is fine study in the production and aging of tequila, from the youngest with rich agave and fire flavors evoking the desert itself to the older ones with more mature flavors, delicate and smooth, with notes of wood and vanilla. In this collection particularly, the sense of place and process both come through in ways I've only before experienced with the best single malts. The package is spectacular as well, but deserves a careful inspection in the store. Some variation in this hand made product is to be expected, but if you are particular on the esthetics, you will want to pick through them. The quality of the spigots and hand blown glasswork (alignment in particular) ranges from very good to beyond excellent - none are bad, they just vary, but why settle for one with a personality you don't like? Take your time in picking the one that speaks to you. In my case, I went looking for another and chose a less perfect one that nicely showed it's hand made nature prior to tasting my gift. A final note is that the glass is not actually one piece, but contains two nearly invisible epoxy joints between the sections (though not in contact with the spirits). Perhaps this compromise was necessary for thermal expansion or other assembly reasons. Nonetheless, it is wonderful to display and I know will only increase in value with time. You too should be getting two - one for your collection and the other to taste and study.
